  1. go to a local garden center, not home depot or lowes,,they usually have bags of local seed that thrive in the same area

  2. the answer will vary depending on the area of NC you live ; if you live in the coastal region try a warm- season grass such as  Bahjagrass, St. Augustinegrass, or my favorite Zoysiagrass(although it is best to lay Zoysiagrass as turf instead of seeding)

if you live in the mountains try some cool-season grasses such as Tall fescue, Perennial Rye Grass, or Kentucky Bluagrass

The Piedmont area is a transitional zone where both warm and cool season grasses can preform well.

check with your local agricultural extension agency every county has one they will be able to tell you the best grass for your area.

hope this helped and good luck.
