My grass is virtually nonexistant! I tried planting mixed seeds, but it turned out, i bought the temp stuff (oops ^_^) i want to make sure im planting the right kind this time. what kind of grass grows well (or at least ok) in florida soil? one side of my yard is mostly shaded, with 2 big oak trees, so the lawn gets covered with leaves and acorns (which i try to keep up on). the other side isnt shaded, it has one tree that sheds a bit, another oak, and there is i big bare spot under it, it looks horrible!

  1. What part of Florida? I lived in South Florida and we had sod. Our lawn looked great after that. And easy to maintain. It sounds like Bermuda grass would be a good choice. I've attached a link below.

  2. Most Florida lawns are St. Augutine grass.  There is a cultivar that will tolerate shade called Seville. It does require some sort of irrigation system to supplement rainfall in dry times.

The other grasses that are available like Bahia,Bermuda, or Zoysia are not shade tolerant and will thin out over time.

Consider creating beds in the very shady areas and using Seville for the turf areas.

  3. Pensacola Bahia is what alot use here in Panama City area where I am at..
