  1. acoustic

  2. for more oldies country, the acoustic, but more and more electric.

country music played on a telecaster can sound pretty sweet

  3. depends but if you get an acoustic you can usually play anything you could play with an electric, however if you are getting a guitar for performance an electric is much beter bbecauseof its flexibility

  4. accoustic by far

  5. In essence acoustic guitars have been the standard. Don't forget that what is known as "country music" today is the consequence of other styles and genres that developed over a long period of time. The many branches of Folk music and the Blues could only be played on different versions of acoustic guitars since the fact is that the electric guitar did not make an appearance until Leo Fender invented it in the 50s.

The fact is that today both acoustic and electric are widely used in country music arrangements. They play different roles though. Acoustic guitars can be picked, used to play arpeggios, etc. but mostly they are used as a basic rhythm keeper through the strumming of chords. Although the electric could also be played/used similarly, it's very effective when used to fill in spaces melodically in counterpoint with what acoustic guitars are doing.

If you don't have a band and you perform by yourself (guitar and vocals) use a steel strings acoustic because the truth is that you're going to want to keep your basic rhythm going. On the other hand, If you're planning to arrange a country song I'd consider having both, an acoustic an electric and since you're at it an electric or acoustic bass of course.

Good Luck and good question by the way.

  6. Bands playing country music usually use both with a little violin or harmonica on the side.

  7. Acoustic guitar, of course! Observe that all folk and country singers use acoustic guitar.

  8. Both blend good with most country songs, however the pure accoustic sounds are the best.

But the electric has its place.

  9. Both,  The best for you may vary even with the song you are playing.  If you are just starting out take the acoustic.    If you can play an acoustic you will become a much better player.  You can't rely on the amp to make up for what you should have learned.

  10. Both will be fine. Steel string acoustic with something in between not to bright but not to warm yet still cut through, really hard to describe, for country a stratocaster or telecaster like guitar will do just fine.
