I know totally nothing about guitars but I really like the sound of them, and i want to buy a guitar so i could learn to play some of the music i like and sing along. I like the sound of acoustic, but i've heard theres some electric guitars that can change from heavy metal to acoustic or something which is pretty cool. Since im a beginner i have no idea if i will want to play guitar after i got one, so my mom is only willing to spend $200 but less than that is good. I also heard that electric is easier to play and doesnt hurt your fingers as much as acoustic, but i dont want a guitar that just play's heavy metal. So i really dont know what i want..but does anyone know any good guitars that are good for beginners?

  1. Well, if you buy an electric guitar, you also have to buy an amp. It could just be cheaper to buy an acoustic for starters, at least just to learn. If you do get an acoustic, get NYLON strings. Steal strings will hurt your fingers if you're just starting, but eventually you'll be able to use them. Steal strings DO sound a lot better than nylon, they sound beautiful, but it might be best to start with nylon.

So all in all: because you're a beginner you should get an acoustic guitar with nylon strings. ^_^

  2. Electric guitars are easier to play, but they're heavier and you'll probably need an amp.  Eletric guitars don't just play heavy metal.  You actually need a setting on your amp or w/e you prefer to use to get it to sound like that.  You can still get the same clean sound.

  3. Electric is easier on the fingers but acoustic will give you a more experienced background for electric guitar so you won't have those weird technicalities when you pick up an electric. and plus with acoustic you won't have to lug an amp everywhere. but electric is good if you want to show off and it has more frets than an acoustic. I would get an acoustic. Most dreadnoughts are good sound for good price. The washburn dreadnoughts, the ibanez dreadnoughts, the fender drednoughts, and the martin drednoughts are all wonderful. But if you'll go to 300 buck the epiphone dove drednought is th eway to go.

  4. The Acoustic guitar is better to start off. Although, you have to hold the strings harder. My first guitar was an electric. I wish I bought the acoustic first. Yamaha makes good beginner guitars in that price range. The pedal to have an acoustic effect may cost you $99 from Guitar Center. In conclusion, I'd get the acoustic.
