What kind of gun would be best?

Question

I've decided to buy a hand gun for my own personal safety/use and don't know which kind is best. I was thinking about a revolver. Does anyone have any input on the subject? Thanks.

I hope it accidently goes off.  Try mace.  If you dont know anything about guns, you shouldnt be coming on yahoo looking for the answers.  Start off a lil more your speed like pepper spray or a kick in the groin.

I recommend a model from the Glock family. Even though they're semi-automatic, they're rugged and fire when the trigger is pulled. If you're in real danger, mace can't always help. Guns aren't always the solution, but they can save you if you're in a life-or-death situation.

Hi Jess,

     You're on the right path considering a revolver. My advice to you is to find a shooting range near you that has gun rentals so you can "try before you buy". Avoid all semi automatics unless you are willing to put in the practice time it will take to become proficient with them since they take longer to master than a revolver. Look for a revolver chambered in either 38 Special or 357 Magnum, the latter of which allows you to also fire 38 specials. Additionally I'd suggest a revolver with a barrel in the 3 to 4 inch range, nothing longer and preferably nothing shorter.   Brands that are worth looking at include Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Taurus and Colt if you can find one also do be afraid to consider a used revolver as long as it's in good shape.
