I have a hackamore with a leather and cotton strap and 2 metal things hanging down and it is the only thing that my arabian will listen too. Can I use it in English Pleasure? If not, what can I use?

  1. well i had that problem too. go to Dover and look up side pull  bridle and i think they have a nose band that is  a side up hackamore. well try that or if you cant find any  go on to eBay i see them all the time there. well good luck.

  2. From the Arabian shows regulations handbook:

    ARTICLE 2008. TACK AND APPOINTMENTS

1(See the current USEF Rule Book.)

    2. Horses must be shown in same type of hackamore, snaffle or bridle throughout the class, i.e. from section through finals.

    3. For Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, and Reining classes, a standard Snaffle Bit is defined as a center jointed, single, rounded, unwrapped smooth mouthpiece of 3/8” to 3/4” diameter metal, as measured 1” from the ring with

a gradual decrease to the center of the snaffle. The rings may be from 2” to 4” outside diameter of either the loose type, eggbutt, dee or center mounted without cheeks. If a curb strap is used, it must be attached below the reins.

    4. For English Pleasure classes, all aspects of Article 2008.3. apply except that half-cheeks are optional.

    5. Hackamores (bosals) shall be round in shape and constructed of braided rawhide or leather and must have a flexible rawhide or leather core. No other material of any kind is to be used in conjunction with a hackamore, i.e., steel,

    metal or chains.

You would need to use a ring-snaffle bit for Arab English Pleasure.

  3. Depends what show circuit you are showing.  They have rules for this type of questions.  Never seen a hackmore allowed in any arab pleasure classes.  Bosals are allowed up to a certain age.  Start off slow with a pinchless bit she will get better.

  4. You can only use a bit in english....

Any snaffle or kimberwicke will be fine.
