Question:

What kind of hairstyle is appropriate for my wedding gown?

I'm getting married in four months and am constantly battling myself over which way to wear my hair with my gown. I always heard to wear my hair similar to how I normally do because I don't want to look like a completely different woman on my day. That would leave me as wearing my hair half-up or all the way down. However, my dress has so much detail on it, I don't know if wearing it all down would make it all look too busy! My fiance' says either wear it all the way up or all half up. I'm so unsure. I don't think I look that great with all my hair pulled up. Here's a picture of my dress from the website. It's pictured as lavender, but mine is all white. And has no shaw or straps. And also is a picture of me to get an idea of my face shape. Thanks so much!

  1. wow that is a beautiful dress! i think your hair would look good half way up...its elegant and would look good with your dress and face shape. i wouldnt wear it all up if you arent comfortable with it all up...you want to feel comfortable and like how you look!

    congratulations!!

  2. You write:  My fiance' says either wear it all the way up or all half up. I'm so unsure. I don't think I look that great with all my hair pulled up.

Then wear it half up, half down . . . as your fiance suggested.

And go to your hairdresser for a couple of practice trials.

Ask your hairdresser's advice.  He/she knows your hair and knows what will work best.  Ask the professional.

  3. A chignon would be lovely with your dress.  It does have a lot of detail and is formal, so your hair should be up but plain.  What type of veil are you wearing?

  4. Good lord, that dress is stunning!

Two points: one, I agree on the half up and curled. You want some body in it, and half up with give you that- the dress is so huge on the bottom, you want some visual balance on top I would think.

Second point, take pictures of the dress and go to your reputable hairdresser, one that frequently does weddings. He or she will have experience and give feedback. From my own research, I know that a lot of places give free consultations. Phone around and find someone you can sit down with and ask them for feedback.

You could even play around with your own hair next time or two you're going to try on the dress, bring a few close friends with you whose opinions you respect, and do it both ways (obviously won't be the same as having done in salon, but give some sense of the movement from hair to dress visually).

good luck and congrats on your marriage to be!

  5. If you can get some more length in the next 4 months I think something like these would look nice....

  6. oooooh. i would so go with curling your hair like the girl in the wedding gown.

  7. Gorgeous dress!

You have such a pretty face that you could wear a paper bag over your head and you would still be lovely.

Wearing your hair down will not detract from your gown.  You can stop worrying about that.   I think the half up style would be great.  It would have the extra bonus that you would feel like yourself and not like some foreign person.

  8. Are you wearing a veil? For me, that would inform how I was going to do my hair. Obviously you will look lovely either with hair up or down. Personally, I love hair down or half up and down. It's really romantic and lovely.

  9. Your dress is beautiful and so are you. I don't think anything would look bad at all on you. Here's one I really like: http://www.eleganthairstyles.com/formal/...

  10. Aww, you are really pretty!  I think you'd look great either way. I know what you mean though, I don't really like the way I look with all my hair up.

My first vote is half-up, with the rest down and curled.   I also like the model's hair in the right-hand picture (showing the back of the gown)- just not as messy-looking.  That style would look nice on you, IMO.

Ask your hairstylist what it would cost to come in and try a few different styles.  Then go with the one that makes you feel most beautiful.  I think any style would go well with that dress (beautiful, by the way), but if you do wear it all down, just make sure it's smooth, not all crazy bed-head like the left-hand picture of the model :)

    Best wishes!

  11. Go to a reputable hair stylist.  Have her try it both ways for you.

It  would look great half up and half down.   I think it would look very becoming.

The only hair style I hate on brides is when the beautician flattens the front of the hair on the forehead.  I don't think any bride looks good with it that way.

By the way your dress is absolutely breathtaking.  You will look so beautiful I doubt if anyone  will even notice your hair.

  12. I would wear the hair down based on your face shape, I have that same kind of chin---- down softens.  You have great hair so it'll look good whatever you do.  And that dress is gorgeous!  Wow.  I really love it. Your day is certain to be perfect.  Good Luck

  13. i think it would look good if u had it up then like all curly

  14. Wow - you two are a cute couple! That dress has a LOT going on, so wear your hair down - maybe upswept on one side with a small decorative comb or barrette.

  15. What a beautiful gown! I think you should wear it half up. There are tons of different half updos. Check this out.... http://www.brides.com/beauty/hairstyles/...

    Congrats!

  16. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I love weddings. I would wear it straight down or curled, it would look best that way.
