I'm 6'6 285 pounds, work out at the gym, mostly strength training, I was wondering what kind of bag I should get. If I got a 150-200 pound one, what kind of benefit would I get physically if I had a workout on one ( just punching it with proper boxing technique ) Would I see improvements over time?

  1. Yeah your punches get a little harder but even more the main benefit from a heavy bag is that your technique naturally gets better to where you are more accurate on how you punch with every punch.  Heavy bags are mainly for training to punch.  If your talking about gaining major muscle and making your arms look good then a heavy bag wont do as near as much as free weights.

  2. if you want to learn how to punch harder you need to learn proper technique and you cannot teach yourself propper technique. you will need to go to a boxing gym.

  3. To improve the power of your punch, a heavy bag is the wrong tool. A heavy bag  is mostly used to improve your technique, your stamina and also you yor footwork. It's definitly a good tool for the general training of a boxer.

Just for training the power of your punch, use weights or other strengthening exercises. The results will be better.
