  1. You shouldn't get your cat use to home made food, it'll spoil them and they may not get all the nutrition they need. But if you feel you must, rice, chicken, salmon, tuna, eggs, and beef seemed to work with my cats. I gave it to them as treats, not meals. You can experiment with the food to see what yours like the most, and be sure to cook it, because they can get sick from raw meat just like people. They aren't use to a raw meat diet.

As far as the bad breath goes, that is all cats. They're breath smells like what they eat, plus they are butt lickers. That will add to the stink. Theres nothing you can really do about it. You can buy some pet toothpaste at your local petstore and try to brush your cats teeth everyday, but that can be a lot of work. I'd say to just stay away from it's mouth and feed it food that doesn't smell as bad. Also, if the smell ever goes racid, like something died, then you may want to get its mouth checked by a vet. Animals get dental/gum diseases just like people.Good luck!

  2. Beans and ham - no.  Chicken and rice - yes.

Ham would be bad because it's cured and salty.  Beans just don't belong in a cat's diet.  Rice doesn't either but if it's added to a dish it's not the worst thing.  You wouldn't serve it alone.

Your best bet if you want to put together a human food meal for your cat is to use just plain meat.  If you're confident of the source, you can serve it raw.  Or you can serve cooked meats.  The best method of preparation would be boiling.  You don't want any added spices or flavorings.

If you want that to go a bit further you could add some cooked rice together and mash it all up.

If you plan to offer these meals as a substition for cat food, you need to know that you will either need to add supplements to make the meal complete and balanced for a cat's nutritional needs, or you need to limit them to 2-3 times per week.

If you want to look into getting your cat off commercial food entirely, see my blog:

  3. They enjoy canned tuna very much.. Mine go bonkers

I was in a REAL financial pinch one time and ran out of money, and wasn't due to be paid for a couple days. I ran out of cat food, but still had money on my food stamps.. Unfortunately, food stamps can't be used for pet food, but I figured out I could buy tuna with my food stamps, cuz it's "people food" (well, "food" for some people, I'm a vegetarian)  So my cats had to eat tuna for a couple days until I was paid LOL

they were really unhappy about it (not)

Cats can eat some of our food.. but be careful.. they can eat some meat scraps as long as it's not fried, doesn't have bones, or threat of salmonella, etc..

Mine love it when I share a couple tiny pieces of choccolate (never hurt them) ice cream, bread, cheese.. all in CAREFUL moderatoin, cuz those things aren't very good for cats..
