  1. 5.1 is 6 pieces, 5 speakers, 2 front, 1 center, 2 rear surround and 1 sub-woofer. You will also need a surround (5.1) receiver to take the DVD or TV sound, amplify it and power all of the speakers. Most new systems have HDMI connections except the cheaper units. Unless you are using a Blue Ray player you don't gain much with HDMI except the simplicity of one cable. They make Home Theatre systems all in one box if you are on a budget but most of them will never provide a jaw drooping sound experience. You can spend thousands depending on how extreme you want to go and the sound will become just as entertaining as the picture if not more.

  2. the new Sony's are coming out with HDMI...and they sound way better.....and it will let you listen to the tv and dvd in true 5.1........dolby and dts.......good luck!!!!
