Please try to give a height and breed so that I have an idea of how heavily built it is. A picture showing the build of horse you mean would also be good. If you know a site that has lists of what horses weigh how much that would be absolutely awsome. Thanks everyone.

660 pounds/300 kilograms

880 pounds/400 kilograms

1100 pounds/500 kilograms

1210 pounds/550 kilograms

1320 pounds/600 kilograms

  1. Here are a couple of many sites dedicated to describing horses by breed and what they normally weight and how tall they are.

  2. A quarter horse can weigh 1302 pounds. I think.

  3. idk

  4. Ponies- under 1000

    Light horses- 1000 to 1300

    Drafts- 1300 plus

give and take a few depending on individual horse

  5. 660 pounds-880 pounds: This would be like an Exmoor Pony, Norwegian Fjord, and a Welsh Cob

1100 pounds: A Thoroughbred or smaller Warmblood

1210 pounds: A larger Warmblood(My horse weighs 1250lbs and is 16-2hh but a mix breed)

1320 pounds: Usually a smaller Draft like a Gypsy Vanner most likely.

And for the person who said miniature, The smaller ones don't exceed 250-260lbs and the larger ones don't exceed 400-450lbs.

  6. One thing I will start off with is that most people have a huge misconception on just what their horse weighs... you see it all the time - the horse is 16H and weighs 1300#'s...   I'll show up and the horse is barely 15 and more likely 900#'s.  The only real way to know is to take the horse to a Grain Elevator and weigh it.  You'll find most are way off on the wieght of their horse!

660 - would be a large Welch  - Usually not found much taller then 13.2. From 600-800 is about all the bigger some Arabs are as well!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Pony

880 - would describe most of your small qh (cutting type) - but would best be shown as the Arabian.  From roughly 800-1000 is most of your average Quarter/morgans/ and even some TB!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian%5Fh...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Qu...

Here is a link to a reining stallion - you can see he's got a smaller thing build allowing him to be agile and athletic then some of the bigger bodied Halter QH

    http://www.buckhornquarterhorses.com/bhc...

The 1100 - 1200 pound would be the high end of the your typical Halter type QH- dont get me wrong I know there are some nice rope and usin' horses tipping the scale at 1200!

This link takes you to some of the LARGE  Halter types

    http://www.downhomequarterhorses.com/ind...

The 1320 and above is going to be a draft horse -

If you have a horse and care to see what it might weigh here is a neat calculator!

  7. You can find a lot of internet websites about horse sizes. I know Lippizanners are 1200-1300 pounds. Although I've heard some being as small as 800 pounds. What else do you need to know?

  8. google horse breeds.

  9. A horses weight doesnt contribute to their breed. For example with standardbreds. You may find some as small at 14.1hh where you can also find others around 17hh. They are the same breed and definately different weight. Also you may find standardbreds who are built more like arabs, some more like tbs and others like wbs. Weight has nothing to do with the breed in most cases.

  10. dead horse

    starving horse

    healthy horse

    healthy horse

    overweight horse

  11. MDolittle is right! These are the same questions as yesterday!!! What's going on? Sorry I didn't answer your question, but some strange stuff is going on here!

  12. Lippazaners weight around 1210 to 1320.  More so on 1320

  13. miniture, pony, arab, quarter, draft

  14. 880 pounds/400 kilograms

  15. 660 LBS = Welsh

    880 LBS =  QH Pony

1100 LBS =  Smaller QH  (15 hands, etch)

    1210 LBS =  Larger QH

1320 LBS =  Draft or Draft Cross

Now that I've posted my answer, has anybody else had a problem with Y/A posting any new questions today?

Yeah, Mdoolittle, I'm seeing the same thing, seems it's all over answers too!  Must be 'cause Yahoo sold out and they are doing something new.

  16. I'm sorry I don't know the answers to this question...

What is going on with YA?

Wow... I left for work this morning and expected some new interesting questions to keep me busy... Not a single new one!

On the top of my page it says "We are experiencing some technical difficulties. Please be patient while we solve this problem"

What shall I do with my time now??

  17. for 660 ponds this is what small ponies wheigh like shetlands they are one of the smallest pony breeds. but there are horses that weigh even less and they are called miniatures and yes this is a breed of horse they usually weigh between 150 and 300 pounds. there is also a type of breed called pigmy horses they are like a miniature of a breed kindof like toy breeds in dogs. for the 880 pounds this is what most ponies weigh like welsh ponies new forest ponies and many other ponies and they are usually about 12-14 hands tall.

1100 ponds is the average horse size like quarter horses usually 14.3-16 hands tall. also morgans weigh arounds 1100. they 1210 ponds are most warmbloods which is a wide category because there are dutch warmbloods beligum warmbloods ect. then for the 1320 are like draft horses, percherons, Clydesdales. but remember there are many more breeds imbetween so i hope that this gives you a breif idea of a horses breed matching up with its weight.

  18. Well for example our 14'2 cob weighs around 500 - 550 depending on the time of year but my tb who is 16'2 also weighs around that and our 2 year old colt is around 15'3/16 and weighs about 450 or so.

It isn't just dependant on the horses height - a cob will be heavier for it's height that a pony of the same height.

  19. Why would you need to know? Is there anyway I can help?

  20. could be any horse of any size. you can't tell by the weight of the horse. you have to tell my the breed and build.

  21. possum

  22. is this the only question thats working??? I asked one yesterday and it still hasn't shown up!!!! >_<

  23. anyone else having problems...I'm just seeing the same questions that I saw before I went to bed Saturday night...east coast, USA here.

  24. well i dont know about the 660 to the 880 lbs range (i'd say a mini but i dont know much about a mini or smaller ponies.)

my horse (qh/tb) was 16.2 hands and 1100-1210lbs and he was a good wieght (considering it was hard keeping him at a healthy weight). so between 1100 to 1210 for larger light breed horses sounds about right (from my experiances with them)

1320lbs would be getting into heavy draft horses, i'm guessing mostly shires that get up there. but again i've never owned a heavy wieght draft so i dont know exactly how much they wiegh/should wiegh.

my attempt at photos (never done them on here so if they dont come up i'm sry)

    shire: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

    someone riding a shire:

    http://www.theshirestation.com/_trimages...

(side note: the world's largest horse was a shire that lived in england)

some really small mini: (i think it's a cute pic and you can easily tell how tall the horse is)

    http://www.sportogo.com/images/A%20Mini%...

    showing mini horses:

    http://www.jackafellastud.com/mini%20hor...

light horse size, at my best guess these light horses should at least wieght 1,000 lbs-1,200lbs, of 14.2-16.2  hands. . . again my best guess.

    arab:

okay, those are some pics of different size horses. *note: i just googled em. just type in the breed name and you'll find more*

  25. According to a University study an average old style roping quarter horse weighs in at 1200 even though the average height of such a horse is 14.2 hands.  The new style taller quarters actually weigh in at less at 900 to 1000.

Typical arab is 750 to 850 though watch that becaus ethere is a lot of difference in the size of various lines.

660 would be a large pony.

    1100 would be a TB.

1320 is going to be a light draft with heavy drafts (Percherons, belgians, and shires) going up to 1500 lbs on average with individuals of heavy drafts tipping the scales at 1800 to 2200 lbs.  (Now that is a BIG horse).

And yes I agree with cowgirl that an occassional quarter will tip the scales at 1300 or better.  Those are few and far between however.
