my video camera came with a usb cord that would work on windows xp but i recently got a vista and I have researched it to find out I need a firewire cord. My computer has a port but I dot know which size of cord to get for the camera end. It has the plug in for normal usb cords that come with most electronics. It also has another hoo up that is used to put it onto the tv. What cord should I get?

  1. I'm guessing you have a HDD (hard drive) camera? If you have a tape, or MiniDV, camera, USB shouldn't have worked in the first place.

As you've described it, the camera has only a USB port and no DV ports - I still think you can safely use USB. You might just have to find the drivers for the camera on the manufacturer's website.

If this doesn't work or if you have a MiniDV camera, you'll need a DV to Firewire 400 cable (also called capture cable). These are easy to find in electronics stores.
