I'm sure it varies by practice. Generally speaking, do medical assistants give meds? For a family practice, do medical assistants give immunizations? Please enlighten me.

  1. Only a medical doctor or an registered nurse can inject medications.

  2. To give injections, you usually have to take a certification for that type of injection before you can give it, despite what kind of credentials you have.  If you're an LPN or RN, you already have the certification based on your credentials, but CNAs or medical assistants have to take additional training for those types of treatments.

It also depends on what your particular state allows.  Some states require you to be an LPN or RN before being able to give any injections.
