What kind of insect did I just see?

Basically, I'll give you the best description I can.

It's ant-like in shape, about the size of a quarter, with dark black wings across it's back; like when a wasp walks across the ground. The bug itself is pitch black all across, with legs that extend out to the side(it may have had bright yellow tips to it's legs, but it was hard to see).

When I observed it, it had basically stung and paralyzed a grasshopper, and then rapidly started to dig a hole. After repeatedly digging and stinging the grasshopper when it thought it moved; it brought the frozen insect down into the newly dug whole and started to [I guess] feed.

Any idea what this insect is?
