I want to get one of he books from Borders and obtain it myself. If I take the exams and pass, is a self obtained certification viewed the same as a certification obtained from a tech school?

  1. Once you have A+, you've got it.  It really doesn't matter if you went to a trade school or not.  Trade school gives you some good hands on application but you would be qualified for most technician jobs with nothing more then A+.

Side note, if you are JUST going to get A+, you might not want to waste your time.  Way to many people have it and you would have a fairly difficult time finding a job paying over $13/hr as a technician.  It's not a bad jumping off point though.

  2. An I.T helpdesk advisor Im guessing.

certifications are viewed in the same way whoever you attain them from.

  3. I've self studies all my IT career and it has worked out so much cheaper for me. Certifications are viewed the same no matter how you get them. The school isn't the one giving you the certification - Comptia is... and comptia doesn't care how you got it just that you passed the test.

So go for it if you prefer to self study. Most IT professionals choose the self study method too. I've give you a link where you can find more answers to A+ certifications you may have.

    Good luck :)
