  1. Anything working with kids will help you later.  If your schedule doesn't permit you to be in the classroom now, consider after school programs and/or summer camps.

Be advised, though: it is highly unlikely that you will get to choose what grade you teach, particularly for the first few years.  If you are inflexible about this, consider another career!

  2. workin at a tutoring center called SCORE! is a gud choice or volenteering half time at a preschool.

  3. Consider looking at after school programs that might work better with your schedule.  The local YMCA (or something akin to this) should have some great opportunities.

If you can't get a job in this area, don't sweat it, employers realize that you need a job to survive and you can't always get the ones you need.  So.... if you don't get a job in the field keep a list of the transferable skills that you gain in whatever job you're in that will help you be a kindergarten teacher.  For example, if you end up working in retail a skill is,handling customers needs.  Children are "customers" and you will need to handle their needs.  Also, I became a high school teacher and while in college I was an RA.  As an RA I had to develop educational programs (lesson planning!).  So, the job might not seem like a match, but some skills are good to have at any level!

  4. What do you mean you have never had a job????  How do you get to be a freshman in college and have never had a job???  That's crazy.  Anyway......

Right now, it really won't matter what job you have.  The person who suggested you get a job at the childcare center on your campus is a good idea, though.  Since you are only a freshman, you still basically have 2 years of general classes to take before you get into the teaching part of your major.  Once you get further into your major's program, the university will put you in a classroom to learn about what you need to learn.  Sometimes you get to choose the grade level you are with and sometimes you don't.  So, right now it doesn't matter.  You should get the experience you need at the university.

  5. I worked at a childcare center on campus and they stayed open until 7pm, maybe you could do that part time. Or you could work with kids at an after school center or Sunday school teacher.
