  1. A career in psychology may include counseling jobs, social work jobs, research appointments, academic positions and consulting jobs.

and take a look here, you are told of education a psychologist needs and several types of practices + income:

  2. The term therapist means providing therapy. That is about all a therapist can do. Depending on what degree's someone has can allow them to do other things.

A psychology masters degree will allow someone to do therapy, teach in schools, run a Head Start or similar type of program, work in government doing a variety of things.

A psychology PhD will allow some one to do therapy, perform testing, also work any where the masters does. They can be teaching at the university level. They can be running a varied of university student services offices.

If some one went to a masters program of counseling, they are about to do just that, counseling.

In social work at a masters level, one can run programs from a grass roots level to a company, they can also perform therapy, be a community activist, teach at the university level, be in politics as a policy maker, there are more options for someone being at this masters level than any other field. In social work a masters is the terminal level (meaning that if one were to find a school that offers a PhD program in social work, the degree will not allow the person to do any more, unlike a psychology degree)

I hope that this makes sense.
