an entire engine & transmission simultaneously blowing up while driving?

If someone got on the free way, the car starts stalling a bit, then it starts jerking very hard, then there is smoke, and the car will not turn on or drive, then it had to be towed, various mechanics confirmed that the ENTIRE engine PLUS transmission had completely blown up.

What may cause this?

The car was stalling before this and the check engine light was on.

It is a Chevy Cavalier 2001 (Z- 24)

What do you think?

  1. The tranny was probably in really bad condition.  Then the engine failed.  From the mechanics point of view, they both need fixing (or blown).

Remember cars that are poorly maintained have many things ready to fail.

    Good luck...

  2. both were probably in really poor condition and the heat could have caused this to happen,i would Iike to see the vehicle though to confirm what really happened to it,good luck.
