I'm in Grade 10.

I've taught myself to sing classically (I'm a lyrical according to a choral teacher at school) but I have extensive troubles with music theory-though I've told my ear is "excellent" and I haven't done much to improve it, it's just always been this way.

I am very strong in language arts and the sciences...I love labs and piecing things together and I'm an accomplished poet and have a few of my own writing projects going on as of now.

The trouble comes with the math. Although I'm in the "advanced" regular class for my age, I feel as if I don't get out of math what I do the other subjects. I don't enjoy learning it. So I'm trying to self-assess my own learning style to better improve not only my math score, but my joy for math..as I know there is a purpose and a joy somewhere.

Also: What is considered gifted? Could part of my learning deficet be attributed to giftedness, possibly? (Supposedly, gifted thinking is more abstract and can't be classified as easily).

  1. What is gifted?

-When you are exeeding the 'norm' for your age in one or more areas...and by exceeding I mean by quite a lot not just by one grade or so!

COuld it be part of your learning...?

-I dont think being gifted means you're more abstract-I have 'gifted' children in my class and they are in many ways the same as other learners..the difference is they pick things up quicker, have higher understanding which means they are able to move on faster than others in the class who are still learning the 'norms'.  But if you are bored then that could explain why you dont feel you are getting as much...if you dont feel challenged or satisfied then you're going to get these feelings.

If I was you I would speak to you teachers-ask them if they can give you more work, harder worksheets etc.

You may not have a learning 'style'-you may just be intersted in learning which is why you push yourself further and further! Just make sure you are advancing in all areas eg: social skills (friendship groups), physically (sports, dance etc) rather than keep pushing forward in areas you know your are already good in!
