  1. Contact your state's Department of Natural Resources.

  2. Depends.Generally,if the boat is under 65' in length you can go out and make a fool of yourself(and maybe get killed) and do so,legally, without a license. Some states, however, require that you pass a boating safety course regardless of your age while others require same for people born after a certain date.Check with your state boating administrator for specifics.

If the boat is greater than 65' and depending on how it is used/operated an OUPV or limited masters license could be required.

If you are thinking about getting a boat contact your local Coast Guard auxiliary or power squadron units and sign up for a safety course. The courses are free(nominal cost) and you'll learn a lot.

  3. None yet in NY, I hope so soon as they did with jet skis. Would you want to be on a highway with another driver that didn't know what a stop or yield sign meant?

  4. Best license I can think of is; common sense.  and in michigan I think you have to be at least 18 years old to be in command of a boat and also have to take the Boaters Safety Course.

  5. depends on what state you live in.  Call you local game warden to get full details.  But you can count on at least having a valid drivers license.

  6. well in the UK,you can steer a boat as long as 30 metres, with no experience or licence,an accident waiting to happen, possibly with fatalties.

  7. What state are you in?  MD you need a license if born after July 1976 I believe...not sure about the exact date

  8. Don't know, can't afford a boat!

  9. Check with your local gov't. Differrent everywhere.

  10. You will need a drivers license for modest sized runabouts, that is all.  If it is a large vessel than you will need to be a Coast Guard Certified Captain.

  11. it depends on the state you live in.  most states don't require a boater's license, but some do require a boater's safety course (as should everybody!!)  call your local game warden's office and they'll tell you EVERYTHING you need to know.

  12. Depends on the boat, your age, where you are launching it.!
