What kind of light bulbs with a small socket are there?

I just bought a lamp from walmart that uses 40 watt light bulbs but the regular light bulbs don't fit. The socket is a little smaller. I don't know what kind of light bulb to get. thanks.

Probably a candelabra base lamp. See if you have a night lite with a small bulb and try it. There are standard sizes to all of the lamps.  Good luck.

The instructions should have said what type to buy. If not it might say somewhere on the box ( with "not included " right next to it!)
