What kind of light switch is this?

I just bought a house that was originally constructed in 1964, and has not been updated. It has light switches in it that I have never seen before. I've been to lowes and Home Depot and they don't know either. SOOO, I'm hoping someone here does.

The switch action itself is not really a toggle, It returns to the middle position after you push it up for on and down for off instead of staying in the up/down position if that's important.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Those are switches for low voltage control of relays that

    do the actual 120V. switching.

  2. looks like a simple rocker switch  just replace it with the switch of your choice  following what its used for of course    if the one person your talking to at hd or loews  (i find in my area that loews is the worst for knowledgeable people)  doesnt know anything find a sales clerk who does

  3. it's called a rocker switch. It would not hurt to replace it as old as it is.

  4. It's basically a type of button switch and works just like a toggle switch. You probably won't be able to find a new one as it's basically an antique.

  5. Looks like an early modle dimmer switch. But I've never seen one like that.Try contacting the company that made it?
