What kind of lubricant can I use for my spincast fishing reel?

Lubricants: greases, oil, household products.

Needed for flip bar on Okuma Steeler 40 spinning reel.

  1. You want a thick lubricant so it will stay on the moving parts. A thin oil like 3 in 1 won't do this. Most tackle shops sell little tubes of "reel lube" for a buck or so. Many reel manufacturers sell the stuff, but the brand shouldn't matter. (I'm not familiar with sewing machine oil, but if it's a thick viscous oil, it should be fine.)


  2. Hubby says use Sewing Machine Oil.

  3. <>3-in-1 or sewing machine oil will do.  Some people swear by Teflon or graphite lubricants, but I've always used the oil.
