What kind of machines/technology are behind updating of stock information to get it onto the stock exchange?

For example the price of the stock, when it changes what kind of machiens / technology are involved to update it and determine the value of it so NASDAQ can allow the newspaper to print that "xyz" stock is -5 points, and worth less than it was yesterday etc....
