What kind of meat is alligator?

Is it light meat, dark meat, seafood or is it in its own category? It's low in fat, and its color and texture vary depending on the part of the animal being eaten.

  1. the alligator is a reptile, not a fish, so it's not seafood.  It's not meat, it's not fowl, soooooooooo.........the answer is, reptile meat.  It would be considered a dark meat, and my understanding is that it is very, very tough and stringy, similar to rattlesnake.  cooking it will be an adventure.  eating it will be a whole different type of adventure.  enjoy!! glad it's you and not me!

  2. Rare meat to find and delicious (at least up north).

  3. It is what it is.  It is just alligator meat.  It is not seafood, or beef, or poultry.

  4. I had alligator before...it was serve in small nugget form. It was deep fried and came with different dipping sauces. It was very good. It seemed light..like chicken breast...and had a very similar taste. People in the restaurant business would just call it "exotic" foods

  5. interesting...i have no clue, but alligator is delicious!

  6. Reptile..........

  7. I think it is in the boot or purse family LOL.  Not sure.

  8. I eat alligator all the time. There is a restaurant in Bayou Black that serves gator bites, little bits of fried gator tail meat. It is NEVER stringy. I cannot understand where that person ate gator that was tough or stringy, but all I ever had was the most succulent, tasty gator in Louisiana. It is delicious and the best is sauce piquant made with the meat. Wonderful. Very healthy, low fat. You only use the meat from the big fat part of the tail. Yum.  And, CHUTZPAH, don't knock it til you've tried it!! It is NOT tough, or stringy. It is really, really good eating. Better than pork, beef or rabbit. Well, maybe not rabbit.
