i have been working my way through college at a restaurant for about 4 years now. one of my friends started working with me and this was his first saturday night. saturday nights are always so full that you need reservations at least a week advance. we always run out of ice t and water pitchers to refile drinks because of big parties and tray stands for the pizzas. when it happened tonight, he used a a coffee jar from the coffee maker as a pitcher to refill drinks and he used the high chairs for children as a trey jack for the pizzas. how come the owners who have been there for 20 some odd year, or i who has been there 4 never though of this? is it a special way of thinking?

  1. resourcefulness, creativity... a strong problem solving ability... yes i would say it is a special way of thinking... but i would also say that him being new contributed to it. you have been working there for a while and so have the owners and you have been doing the same things the same way for so long, you dont see other uses for them. it is like the riddle/problem: you have a tac, a box of matches, and a candle... you have to attach the candle to the wall and light it (there are some other conditions i dont remember) but people are naturally going to try to stick the tac through the candle... but the solution is to tac the box to the wall and set the candle on top of it... (sorry it needs the extra details i left out)

  2. Just resourceful I guess...thinking outside the box.  He'll probably do well there.
