  1. Umm i believe it like everything else money.

  2. The state of Alaska provides its residents with a "Permanent Fund Dividend" each October.  Last year, it was $1654 to each man, woman and child.  This year's amount hasn't been determined yet, but will be around $1800-1900.

The "Permanent Fund" is a portion of the royalties collected on oil pumped from the North Slope (Prudhoe Bay, etc).  The Dividend is a 5-year average of the proceeds from the Fund less some funds used to inflation-proof the fund.

To receive it, you must live the previous calender year in state, intend to stay, and file a form in the spring.  Any one of any age can get it.  You aren't required to have a job, pay taxes, take a bath or even to vote pro-oil during elections.

Not surpirsingly, handing out free money is very popular.  Ocotober is bigger than Christmas for retailers (a family of 5 has an extra $8,000 to $9,000 to spend) so an awful lot of cars, trucks, wide-screen TVs, guns, snow machines (snow mobiles), and Hawaiian vacations get sold then.  A sort of retail feeding frenzy.

I'd rather it was spent on infrastructure, long-term energy plans, and education, but if they keep giving it away, I'll apply and put it in the kid's college funds.

  3. They are just called dollars.:)

  4. If you qualify by residency (and I don't know the details) the State of Alaska annually sends checks to residents from the income the State derived from the oil and gas production.
