Question:

What kind of motorcycle can I get for 1500 dollars?

I want to invest in a sport motorcycle. (I'm just starting out.) I want to try to get a used one for a better price. Are there any reliable brands I can look into?

Or should I just invest more funds for a better one? This is mostly for fun, not competition.

  1. Depends. You should be able to find a used ninja 250 maybe even a gs500 for that range. While not a sport bike I purchased a 1999 KLR 650 for $1900 a year ago, in great shape put 8-9K miles on it last year.

If you're mechanically inclined keep an eye out for rat bikes. My brother purchased a 1992 GS400 (yes 400cc 4cyl they're semi-rare) for $400 and spent a few weeks and another $400, including new tires, fixing it up rode it for a couple years before selling it for $1200.

Now some people will disagree but there are the Chinese made bikes on ebay and such. I've met a few people with them and they all love em. Apparently they are copies of old hondas and a lot of parts are interchangeable, but do a lot of research before purchasing one.

  2. one that doesn't work or will not work 4 long : (

  3. A used Kawasaki Ninja 250 or a Honda CBR 250.  They get great mpg's and are a sport bike. They are not radical bikes, but just give you the freedom of a bike. They are fun bikes to ride. Definately look for the ninja 250. they are common. look in the local paper in the classifieds for one. Good luck!

  4. like nothing bikes rnt that cheap ull need atleast 5000 4 a decent bike that works well go 4 the kawasaki ninja there awesome

  5. okay first.

you want to get your moneys worth!

so i would highly recomend saving about $500 more.

if you cant do that, then look in a used vehicles magazine.

around here (tricities washington) it is called wheels deals.

people are always selling motorcycles in there.

you might be able to get a halfway decent banshee or maybe a kawasaki for two grand!

    MAYBE!

and when you find what you are looking for, you should ask questions......and lots.

like i said, you want to get your moneys worth.

ask about former accidents, any problems, oil, gas, etc...

and dont go with it unless you know you can fix something or you have the money for what it needs...

a bike is no fun just sitting around cause you used the wrong oil or a part was previously fixed wrong!

trust me i have suffered that!

    lmao

and just to give you something to think about.

    i recently got a 2008 yamaha 250 raptor.

it was almost 5,000 dollars, but i tell you dude,,,,,,,,

    IT IS SOOOOO WORTH IT!

so if you can wait long enough to save up another 3500.....

    DO IT!

    lmao

    anyways...

    good luck:D

  6. an older used one, check craigslist.com

  7. piece of c**p.. u might get a little better one for 2500

  8. get a 600

you can usually find them around 5 or 6 thousand, maybe 4

but 1500 wont get you a sport bike, a dirt bike, but not  a motorcycle like this.

  9. Probabaly a late 80's to early 90's, 125 or 250cc racing bike.

  10. Even though you only want a bike for fun you would be best to spend a little more than you seem to already have as you really do get what you pay for.  If you buy cheap you will still be spending as you will find the bike has problems.

So save a little more as it will save you in the long run

  11. well for 1500 bucks.. your not gonna get a bike worth much at all... get about twice that much and you will be looking at somethihng a lot better...  go for like an 04 or and 06 bike.. the model year will help the price go down even if it is a good bike..
