I seen a motorcyle the other day, an older man was riding it. It was like a 4 wheeler but I noticed the old guy was sitting in a very comfotrable looking seat. I dont like two wheelers to start with (I dont feel safe) and I also have some physical limitations. I cant ride a bike for long distances because of my back (need a back) and I have a special cushion I use. So I thought this cycle could be possible for me. With skyrocketing gas, I am considering it. But what kind of motorcyle or modifications are we talking here?

  1. It was probably a trike.  It's done through conversion kits to a standard motorcycle.  Don't expect to get outrageous mileage or for it to be inexpensive.  Fun, yes, practical is debatable.

You can get better gas mileage with a toyota prius, than you can with most motorcycles.

There is a motorcycle rally in Lake George NY every June called Americade.  There are lots of trikes at that show, and many different vendors selling/installing the kits.

One of the big reasons people have trikes is because they have some handicap that prevents them from riding a motorcycle.  But they still have a jones to do the motorcycle thing.

  2. trikes are common, but if you're going to buy a trike, just buy a small convertible, and skip all the red tape...

i think a miata is for you...

  3. If your just worried about better gas mileage then stick with a small car. 3 wheelers are much like bikes but won't be all that great on gas.

  4. You may like the Can Am Spyder.

  5. This kind of trike is called an "Ecstasy".  With a V-8 engine its probably not going to solve your gas problem

This is Volkswagen powered.  A biker in my end of town has one like it.

  6. i doubt that it was a four weeler but a three weeler or trike fits the description...trikes are generaly custom bikes and come at a high price of 50k or more but beside the fact that they are expensive... they ride very smooth.. are somwhat rare and are head turners.. are very comforatable.. and pretty cool.. so if you have a bad back and want in on the cycling world then ya a three weeler or trike is perfect!
