What kind of mountain bike?

Question

I'm going to be buying a new mountain bike, I'm going to be going off jumps and go trailing alot with this bike. My price range is between $600-$700. Which brand and model bike could you guys suggest to me? Thanks

I would personally shop the closeout's (last years models) if you insist on buying a new bike (for used, craigslist is awesome if you live near a big city).....I bought an '08 Gary Fisher Piranha, a hardtail mountain bike, for about $750 including tax and it rocked most of my summer...I've put about a thousand miles on it in th elast 3-4 months.....for that price, I would stick with a quality hardtail...I hear the specialized rockhopper is an excellent entry level bike....you can read reviews of pretty much every bike in production at mtbr.com and you should definitely go to your local bike shop and test ride as many bikes as you can in your price range and find one that feels good and fits you.  That really is the most important thing...everything else can be upgraded.
