What kind of movie maker program should I use?

I have a miniDV videocamera and a usb to connect it to my computer. What are some free programs I can use that will recognize the videocamera when plugged in? Thanks!

Probably none - you'll struggle to find any commercial apps that'll do it.  MiniDV video capture is done via firewire, not USB.  Install a firewire card, connect the camcorder and Windows Movie Maker will work.

or get a dvd ripper (like danuisoft dvd ripper about $40)program and use it to convert your dvd file into a wmv windows media video file import it into windows moviemaker (comes standard on windows xp) that is one way to do it may or may not be the way for you but just a thought
