What kind of music will get you thinking about the Universe and the physical cosmology of it?

I really want something dramatic and mysterious. I guess piano or maybe even the harp would be best. Anything. No lyrics though, maybe some lady humming or saying something silently. No guy. I mean, a guy could be playing the instrument...that's fine.

The soundtrack from the PBS series Cosmos might be what you want.  But I don't know where you can get it, other than Amazon.  I wouldn't call it sad, however, except for part of Beethoven #7 where Carl Sagan returns to Earth from a hypothetical trip and finds out it's dead because of a nuclear war.  I think the series won some kind of award for the music, not sure though.

Check out some of David Arkenstone's stuff.  He has some really amazing cd's.  His music is generally classified as new age but its really good and I'm usually a classic rock/metal listener.

I think about the Universe all the time, because it happens to be my job, but I guess the most evocative piece is the opening of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Georg Strauss.  It was famously used on the soundtrack of "2001, A Space Odyssey"  It is the piece most people would suggest, I guess.

The music you want is the theme from the first chapter of the computer game Homeworld. The original game, not the sequel. I think the title of the theme is "Mission 1: Kharak System." Or something like that.
