  1. This is what www.ancestry.com has to say about the name.

    Holcomb Name Meaning and History

English: habitational name from any of various places, for example in Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Greater Manchester, Oxfordshire, and Somerset, so named from Old English hol ‘hollow’, ‘sunken’, ‘deep’ + cumb ‘valley’.

    Hope this helps.

  2. It is English.  After my mother died my father married a wonderful woman with a great sense of humour whose mother was a Holcomb. They have a great big reunion every year in Houston County,Texas.  The old timers around there pronounce it Hawkum.

She will be 99 this month.  She is a credit to the Holcomb name.
