What kind of oboe should I get?

I have been playing oboe for about four years. I only played on a student oboe for 1 year and didn't like it so i got a pro, made of wood. It wasn't very good. It always played flat and it only had one octave key, but it worked for as long as i needed it to. I am going into high school and I want a new oboe. I was suggested fox, but what other advice do you have? and how much would a good used one cost?

THANKS

  1. Switching from a student model to a professional model is a big deal.

Someone can't tell you what type of oboe you should get. Sure, suggestions are nice, but only you can decide. You have to think about which one you liked the best, which one sounded best when you tried it. Remember that getting a professional instrument wont make you a better player. Sure, the sound will be better, but you have to practice practice practice. Make sure this is something you want to pursue, because this could be expensive and a waste of money if you don't stick with it.

  2. I'm an oboe major in music school and I love my Foxx conservatory oboe. It's grandilla wood, solid silver keys, 3 octave keys, open D key, left hand F and so on.

I had mine customed to my satisfaction and had it made for me.I've never had an issue with it and it was made right here in the USA.

You are going to have to spend big bucks on a conservatory though....they're not cheap.

Mine was close to 6 thousand
