  1. there are several different oils you can use. regular veg. oil is ok. not olive oil as it will leave a funky taste. but the all time BEST thing to season a cast iron pan with is bacon greese. THE BEST!! awesome flavor, lasts for ever, very even. it is perfect. My family has cooked in cast iron for many many years, it is the only thing I will cook in. Bacon fat. I am currently cooking bacon to accumilate enough to season a dutch oven. totally worth the wait

  2. Hello,

I used what I had at the time, which was vegetable oil....even though I use olive oil for my actual cooking. What we were also told to do, and did, was to oil the pan and then bake them in the oven for about 40 mins at around 300 degrees. Then we wiped out the excess oil and voila!

With cast iron cookware the more you use it the better 'seasoned' it gets.  Just remember to never use soap to clean it and don't use anything abrasive like steel wool.  I just clean mine with lots of hot water and a plastic curly cue.  I dry it and re-oil it slightly with a paper towel and put away.

  3. take some bacon and fry it in the pan till it leaves a puddle of grease remove the bacon and cool off the grease in the pan. Then wipe the grease in the pan all over the pan it's done

  4. If this is your first seasoning.  I used Vegetable oil and cooked doughnuts in mine.

  5. I use olive oil. I think you can use any kind of oil though...
