My bike pump is kinda dry and can get hot fast when it's being used.

  1. Lite bearing grease is what we (my cycling club buds) all use. Oil will due in a pinch, but ain't as good.

  2. Older pumps use a leather gasket that must be oiled (the oil swells the leather and creates the seal). If you have an old Silica pump, use the Phil's like the first guys said.

If you have a modern pump, use the grease like the other two guys said.

  3. You're supposed to use a light to medium weight grease not oil on pump heads. I use anything I have around, usually white lithium grease.

  4. I used Phil Wood Tenacious oil on my old Schwinn pump and it works fine. You may want something a little lighter but it keeps the seal really well.
