  1. This will more or less depend on how easy it was to place the dental implant, in other words, were other procedures such as grafting or extractions also necessary?!  Simple implant placements are usually a lot less traumatic than a simple extraction.  Most patients in our office will rate an extraction to be at least twice as uncomfortable as the placement of a dental implant.  Therefore, a non-steroidal antiinflammatory (ibuprophen 400mg-800mg or difunisal 500mg) is usually the medication of choice and usually more than sufficient.

If the preocedure was more complicated, then this regiment can be augmented with some opiate compounds such as Vicodin or Vicoprophen, but then you have to deal with the opiate effects and precautions (drowsiness, constipation, no driving etc.)

  2. I have dental implants and that is my new smile in my avatar.  I was given darvocet because I could not take vicoden as it makes me sick. I was also given an antibiotic and a prescription mouth wash called Periodex, plus steroids for swelling.  As long as I took the pain meds 30 minutes before they were due I had very little pain.

  3. My daughter in law had half of her teeth removed in one surgical procedure, all they recommended she take was paracetamol .... I would imagine that dental implantation would be similar to tooth extraction.....

    :(

  4. vicodin, codine, morphine... take your pick. The doctor will chose one of those or a derivative of those depending on which medications he/she is most comfortable with.

  5. i had vicodin and motrin 800 after i had teeth removed. pretty standard pain meds for everything.

  6. hydrocodone......aka Vicodin.  usually 10mg

  7. They will tell you to take Tylenol...but you may luck out and get some Percs
