we want to paint our basement. Do you have to use a certain paint on concrete?

  1. yes its a certain kind and you can buy it at Home Depot or Lowes for $25/ gallon. They also have concrete cleaner and prep too.


  2. Yeah, it says if it is made for concrete then that's the one. They sell concrete stain or paint. Stain lasts longer. We have it in our garage, you can get this at any home depot or Lowe's. Before you paint though make sure your floor is really clean. Good Luck

There are a couple of options.  There is a stain made specifically for concrete, or as an earlier poster stated you can use an epoxy paint, also specific to concrete.  You will want to thoroughly clean the concrete before you apply any finish.  For stubborn stains, or if the sealer is stubborn, use a dilute muriatic acid solution to remove it.  Be careful with the acid.  Make sure there is plenty of ventilation and wear protective gloves and a respirator.  Hope this helps.
