  1. They ate pasta? It didn't have a shape, temperature, sauce, etc. Dint xiseit

  2. Bread.

    Pasta was an Oriental food.

  3. No pasta in Europe then. Marco Polo brought the idea of pasta from his travels to China back to Italy. There the rice-noodles changed to the wheat stuff we all love.

  4. Fairly sure they didn't eat pasta in medieval england...The staples in that era were bread and meat (pheasant, quail, pigeon, and then all the other standard meats). They had no idea even what salads were and didn't know how to cook vegetables until Queen Katherine of Aragon who was from Spain married King Henry the eighth and introduced them!

  5. According to food historians there was  a common type of pasta which was very different from today, similar to noodles.

"Blend meal which has which has been separated from chaff with water in the best way. When it has been blended, spread it out on a board and roll it with a rounded and oblong piece of wood such as bakers are accustomed to use in such a trade. Then when it has been drawn out to the width of a finger, cut it. It is so long you would call it a fillet. It ought to be cooked in rich and continuallly boiling broth, but it, at the time, it must be cooked in water, put in butter and salt. When it is cooked, it ought to be put in a pan with cheese, butter, sugar, and sweet spices."

"Medieval pasta dishes were both savory (made with meat, pepper, onion, saffron) and sweet (made with honey, nuts, and soft cheeses). According to the food historians, layered & stuffed pastas (lasagne, ravioli) are a Medieval invention. In European/Christian cultures they were often served with cheese during Christian Lent and other meat-abstaining days. "
