Question:

What kind of patio glass sliding door lock is this that I'm trying to replace?

I am looking to replace a lock for a sliding glass door that leads to a patio.

It is not the door handle and it's locking device.

Rather it is a pin or deadbolt type lock that mounts at the top of the door frame and locks it into the stationary part of the frame.

The part is rectangular and mounts horizontally. You put a key in to lock or unlock it. This is accomplished by pulling the pin or deadbolt out towards yourself.

Does anyone know the name of this kind of lock and where one might be purchased online?

I've checked with Home Depot and local hardware stores, and none of them carry this type of lock.

  1. Look in the yellow pages for aluminium repairs or door services etc. Find one thay will let you know. Most Aluminium joinery places will be able to help.

  2. Oddly enough, the part is called a keyed patio door lock.  Have a look at http://www.magsecurity.com/products.aspx...

I don't think Mag sells direct, but your local hardware store should be able to order this (or something similar) for you.  Print the picture (with part number and such) and take it to them.

Ideally you would find the manufacturer of the door and order an exact replacement, but the doors often are not labeled and the manufactures go out of business quite often.  Also, it is possible that this was not part of the original door.

  3. You should be able to look on the door usually in the door jam and find the manufacturing information and you could go to there web site and you can buy an exact replacement part for the door eliminating the need to drill new holes for the screws that you would have to do if you were to purchase a replacement part other than the original
