  1. It takes a special person to be a special education job.  It is a highly respectable job, as I believe all teaching positions are.

  2. It is a very respectable job. A job that not everyone can do. You have to be calm and have patience.  I am kinda put off by the fact you mentioned if it would be a respectable job.  All children are wonderful and deserve to be taught. To ask if the job is respectable make me think that you think these kids are not worthy of a good education. They are human beings just like the other kids. Forgive me if I am over acting.  I have a daughter with special needs.

  3. All sorts of people.  It is a respectable job as you care for and teach people who are less fortunate.  I do special ed, but for young children (3-5).  Special ed teachers get good benifits, nice vacation time, and get to feel great at the end of the day that they are making a difference in the world.  Not many men do it, but I love it.

  4. Working in special ed is a very respectable job as is any teaching position.  It takes a special sort of patience to work with students with a wide variety of learning difficulties. I work as a para-educator (aide) in Special Ed. It is a challenging job that requires commitment to the students we serve.  It is exciting to see progress in the students, even if it is only baby steps.  The teachers that oversee the program have to deal with a lot of time consuming testing and paper work. The ultimate goal is to find the best way to help our kids. The kids come first.
