  2. a 100 years ago in Australia i would guess it was played by the same sort of people that played it in England  ie English people

in Australia,, it was so new i suppose they didnt have a class structure when it was first invented ,    in England it is played by more university type upper echelons types ,soccer is played more by the masses in England

  3. The Australian cricket team is the equal oldest team in the world(with England).Their first match was in 1877v England which Australia won, much to England's surprise. The bails were reportedly burned & the ashes presented to England by some ladies in Melbourne, making that the Ashes Trophy. Up to January 20th of this year, they have played 692 tests. The first half century of the game between these two countries were friendly but competetive. Then the Bodyline series changed that for a time. However, the modern era of cricket under the successive captaincies of Border, Waugh, Taylor & Ponting are considered to be the most successful in it's history. As for the players, they were very much as they are today, a mixture of business men, teachers, & in fact many professions. The only change I would say, is that today's players are more intense & go out there to win every time. It is no longer a social game, but big business.

  4. Convicts? well our country was basically populated by them so i guess it would make sense LOL
