What kind of permits or licenses would you need to buy a hunting rifle in BC?

I have previous experience with machine guns and semi/full auto rifles through the army but would like to purchase my own rifle. It would be used primarily for deer at close to medium range. Say 10 to 100m. I'm kinda sketchy on caliber though, I don't wanna blow the thing to bits. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. BC - I'm assuming Canada

you need a license from the government and proof your over 18 and you need to prove it that you will hunt

  2. You will have to qualify (pay through the nose) for a Possession and Aquisition Licence before you can buy a hunting rifle. In your case, I would buy a bolt action in .270, 30-06 or .308, but that is mostly because I strongly prefer bolts. You could probably use any action of rifle since you aren't shooting past 100 yards (90 yards).

Ps. You will also need 2 pieces of ID, one of them photo, to prove you are who you say you are.

  3. You need you non-resticted PAL to buy the gun and ammo and a hunting licence to hunt.  If you know guns and the Canadian laws you can just chalenge the PAL exam without taking the course.  Find a gun store and ask them where and when you can do it.  I think in BC you need to take a hunters ed course to get your huntin licence if you have never had one before.  When you ask about getting your PAL ask about that too.

  4. like all the others said you will need a pal you can get info on what is required at www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca, the official government site for firearms
