caring, compassionate, emphathetic, patient, and willing to be poor.

patient, empathic, self-motivated.  genuinely care about people and believe in helping them find and utilize their strengths.  And yes, as the previous answerer said, be willing to live off a relatively low income.

A good critical thinker is important, compassion is necessary, someone who is creative, has a high tolerance for frustration and ambiguity.  It is helpful to have a good sense of humor, being flexible, open minded, grounded, willing to think outside the box - organized helps
