Well it the guy with the evil hamster and we will return it wednesday if it doesnt get nicer(i doubt it will). IF we return it what other rodent should i get besides hamsters. If it comes down to hamsters i want the nicest breed i can get that wont bite me every day and will get used to me quickly and doesnt mind being handled much. Now i have heard gerbils are better at not biting but are they easier to tame and play with? can they live in a hamster cage? just the basics for the rodents of all kinds would be nice. NOTE: im a beginnner so no freaky breeds please. I would not like a rat but it might come down to that since ive heard they LOVE attention and stuff.

So basically what im asking are the pros and cons of the rodents. Thanks oh and they have to be able to live in a hamster cage. Its only big enough for about one maybe 2 hamsters so nothing huge or in pairs. Thanks again!

  1. hi rats are best in my opinion.fancy black hooded rats nice i like females.theres all diffirent rats out there  so do ur reasearch thier intelligant, nice and makes a gud pet.

gud luck...enjoy...if u get rats get same s*x pair.they get on better if two off them

  2. Rats are fantastic. They are like dogs in miniature. However, they do need to be kept in pairs or groups and they will definitely get too big for a hamster cage.

  3. why dont you get rats, they only really bite if they feel threatened or you have food on your hands. you can roll them about and they wont bite you, and you can even out your face right upto them and they wont bite it, unlike a hamster

  4. well maybe get a gerbil ??? or another hamster

  5. I would have to advocate rats.  I have had hamsters and mice before and they simply cannot match the personality of rats.  Rats are intelligent, friendly and social.  Female rats are very active, males tend to get lazy toward adulthood so if you want a laprat get a male.  Rats DO do better in pairs so they would not fit in a hamster cage but I know you would get more out of a rat relationship than a hamster or mouse one.  That being said, I know you're trying to keep whatever pet in a hamster cage so you're probably better off with hamsters than mice because hamsters seem to have more personality.  You should buy a hamster (or any pet you choose) from a breeder or, if you must buy from a petstore, buy from Petsmart or another store which regularly handles its pets.  Socialization is really what makes the pet.  Make sure you hold them before you buy them as that would be a good indicator too.  Good luck.
