What kind of pet tortoise should I get?

Question

I want a tortoise that will happily live inside. Preferably small and does not require too much time or money. Living inside is a must.

The only turtle that's partly tortoise and is best to have as a pet is a box turtle. I'm getting one as well on Wednesday!

A tortoise will eventualy become an outside pet b/c they get HUGE!!!! get a turtle! Also, not only do the get huge (like the size you see in zoos) but some can live longer then you can, are you ready for that kind of commitment?

doesnt require too much time or money..............

if u dont want to spend thes things on your pet a tort really isnt for you. also all torts need alot of room

1. There are few cheap tortoises in Canada. Try the Canadian forums at http://www.turtleforum.com to see what other Canadians do.

2. Living inside... Russians never do as well indoors as they do outside- no matter what other people here are saying. The Greek (Testudo graeca) or Hermann's (Testudo hermanni) are about your only real options, and in the US they run about $150.

3. You can consider a Three-toed Box Turtle (Terrepena carolina triungus) as something smaller and cheaper... however they are not 'low maintenance', and take some work on a daily basis.

There really is not a great match between what you want and what is available- sorry!

We have a pretty cool little Russian Tortoise named Tim, he's pretty small only like 7 inches and very, very low maintainence (sorry about spelling). He is actually my little brother and sisters... they are six and seven and he is the perfect pet easy to take care of and pretty fun.

We have him in a cage that is like double a twenty gallon tank kind of......(but plastic and a bit bigger) At the store he was just in a ten gallon tank, he will eat meal worms, lettuce, thawed frozen corn and other things like that. He's really cool!

One more last thing he will only get to like 8 inches and thatshead to tail not height. They also live up to like 75 years.
