  1. black iron pipe or the flex lines can also be used.

  2. Contrary to what the first responder says, you can NOT use copper pipe.  The simple reason is, the fact that copper tubing is not dense enough to contain the gas.  The molecules are far enough apart that the gas will pass by them, and it will leak.  Everywhere I have ever been, black iron pipe is what is used inside the house.  In "modern times", they use a dense plastic tubing to run the gas main to the house, but then it is transitioned to the black iron pipe.  When you make the connections you need to use "pipe dope", or "plumber's dope" to seal the joints.

If you are unsure, in any way, call a licensed plumber.

Also, If you do it yourself, don't use the "match method" for finding leaks.  Use soapy water in a spray bottle.

  3. Copper tube is what is normally used.

  4. Black iron pipe is used around here. Then you use flexible connector pipe at the appliance.

  5. Check your local codes.

Here in my area black iron pipe is common for natural gas.

Copper pipe is widely used in LP gas installations, contrary to what another has said you can find copper tubing in the National Fuel Gas Code as an approved material.

CSST (corrugated stainless steel) is getting more popular and can cut labor costs but is more expensive and more restrictive and requires special sizing considerations.

  6. You need to use black iron pipe.  1/2" or larger depending on the item you are supplying gas to.  Be sure to use pipe dope on all threaded connections up to the item being supplied and then use a flexible line connection from the black iron pipe to the appliance.  Be sure that the flex line is a UL approved item.

Safety is the most important thing in working with gas.  All joints must be sealed with pipe dope and tightened securely to prevent any leaks.

    GOOD LUCK!!!
