Gonda is a District Head Quarters in Uttar Pradesh.  Tradition relates that the site of the present Gonda was originally a Jungle. and that during the rule of the Kathar Rajas of Khurasa there was a cattle station, in which the Ahirs of the Raja kept their herds. From this fact the place was called Gontha, which afterwards became Gonda.
