What kind of plane ticket(s) should I buy?

Query: I'm planning on going to Ghana, West Africa in December and staying until the end of January, from Ghana I'll leave for Paris until late May. From Paris I'll be coming back to the states. I need some ideas on how to buy a ticket or tickets for this. I was going to buy a one-way to ghana and then a one to Paris from ghana and then a one-way to the U.S from Paris, what's the cheapest? I need ideas? Thanks for your help!
