Question:

What kind of plants or shrubs will grow under Pine Trees?

I have on one side of my yard longleaf pines nothing seems to grow under them, any Ideas?

  1. I would read the article that I'm posting below, which tackles this issue. The key quote from it is:

    "I'd say you need to understand what your soil pH is if starting a new garden or trying something new, like growing plants under pines. I've had good luck growing broadleaf evergreens under conifers - such as rhododendron and azaleas. For these, the trees provide protection and generally are growing in an acidic soil. I have seen spectacular displays of hostas and impatiens under pines."
